Privacy Policy
Effective date: 17 September 2026
SleepTight is built so your sleep data, and anything the microphone hears, belongs to you alone. We do not collect it, we cannot see it, it never leaves your phone.
1.The short version
SleepTight is a sleep tracker for iOS and Android. It has no user accounts and no servers that store your information. Everything it records or estimates stays on your phone, encrypted. We collect no personal data, run no analytics, show no ads, and use no third-party tracking. The microphone feeds a level meter on the phone, not a server. Because we never receive your data, we have nothing to sell, share, or disclose, and nothing that could be subpoenaed, breached, or handed over. The only way to guarantee that is to never have it in the first place.
2.Information we collect
We collect nothing. The app does not ask for a name, email address, phone number, or account of any kind. What it records is stored only on your phone and is not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Specifically, we do not collect or receive:
- Sleep sessions, including time in bed, estimated sleep onset, awakenings, efficiency, disturbance, or scores
- Pre-bed log tags (caffeine, alcohol, medication, stress, and the rest) or your own ratings
- Night-terror log entries
- Sound levels or detector events
- Audio recordings or clips
- Your name, email, or contact details
- Advertising identifiers or device identifiers
- Location data
- Usage analytics, crash logs, or diagnostics
3.The microphone
The snore and scream detectors are the only features that use the microphone, and they only listen while a night session is running with a detector switched on. Here is exactly what happens:
- A level meter, not a recorder. While a session runs, the microphone feeds a live sound-level meter on the phone. The app is not saving what it hears.
- A short clip, only when your level is crossed. When the sound level goes above the threshold you set, the app saves a short clip, including a brief pre-roll from just before the trigger, so you can review and label it in the morning.
- Never streamed anywhere. Nothing from the microphone is sent to us or to any third party, at any time.
- Encrypted at rest. Clips are encrypted on the phone with the same key that protects the app's database.
- Retention you choose. You decide how many days clips are kept, and you can delete any clip, or all of them, at any time.
- Clips leave the phone only when you tap Share. A clip is exported only when you choose Share and pick a recipient yourself. That copy is then in the hands of whoever you sent it to.
- The system indicator is on for a reason. iOS and Android show their microphone indicator whenever any app is listening. You will see it all night while a detector runs. That is the operating system telling the truth about what SleepTight is doing.
- Other people in the room should know. If you share a bedroom, tell the people in it that a session is running. Recording laws vary by place, and consent is your responsibility.
4.How your data is stored and protected
Your data is saved in a SQLCipher database that is encrypted on the phone. The encryption key is held in the device keychain (the secure enclave-backed store on iOS, the Android Keystore on Android). We hold no copy of it.
Optional lock. The app opens directly by default. If you turn on the lock, the key is wrapped under the PIN you choose, and you can add Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint unlock on top. We cannot reset a forgotten PIN, because we never have it. With the lock off, the key stays in the keychain and the app opens without a PIN.
Backups. A backup is a single file encrypted with a passphrase that you set. Audio clips are excluded unless you choose to include them. You decide where the file goes. We never see the file or the passphrase.
5.Device permissions
- Microphone: used only by the snore and scream detectors, only while a night session runs. Optional. Decline it and everything else in the app still works.
- Notifications: bedtime reminders, wind-down prompts, and the alarm are scheduled locally on your phone. There is no push server.
- Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint: used only for the optional lock. Biometric data stays with the operating system and is never seen by the app or by us.
- Battery state and keep-awake: nightstand mode reads whether the phone is plugged in and keeps the screen on so the clock and detectors stay running.
- Motion: used by the optional smart-wake window, in the foreground only, to look for movement near your alarm time. Nothing is stored beyond the current night.
The app does not request network access to transmit your data, and it functions fully offline.
6.Purchases
SleepTight is a one-time purchase made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those transactions are handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your payment details. We may receive anonymous, aggregate sales figures from the stores that do not identify you.
7.No sharing, no selling, no third parties
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your personal information, because we never have it. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software, and it makes no network calls of its own.
8.Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal data that a company holds about you. We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing on our side to access, export, or delete. You are always in full control of your data on your phone: you can edit any night, delete any clip, export everything as CSV, and erase everything permanently from the app's settings.
9.Children
The app is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. The scream detector is not a baby monitor and must not be used as one. It responds to sound level, it can miss events, and it is not a safety device.
10.Store privacy disclosures
On the Apple App Store, SleepTight is labelled Data Not Collected. On Google Play, our Data Safety section declares that the app can record audio, that the recordings stay on your phone, and that nothing is collected or shared. These labels describe the behaviour set out in this policy: audio is processed on the device and is not collected by us.
11.Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the app works in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Because the app collects nothing today, any future change that involved collecting data would be clearly disclosed here and, where required, presented to you in the app for your consent.
12.Contact
Questions about this policy or your privacy? Email [email protected].
SleepTight is not a medical device, and nothing in the app is medical advice. Time in bed and consistency are measured. Sleep onset, awakenings, efficiency, and the score are estimates from sound and motion, and they are labelled as estimates. The app cannot see brain activity and does not report sleep stages. If you are worried about your sleep, consult a qualified clinician.
